An Interview with GHOST REFLECTIONS (Part 1 of 2)

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

With *Ghost Reflections*, Mir and Murmur have opened a new chapter in their musical journey, where electrodark, metal, and atmospheric soundscapes converge. In the first part of our interview, they talk about the project’s origins, the meaning behind the name, and their debut EP, *I Am I*.

Orkus: How and when did the idea to form Ghost Reflections first come about?
Mir: We used to joke about forming a musical duo with dark influences. In January 2026, that idea finally took shape, starting with a few verses I had written. Murmur began working on them, and that’s how “I Am I” came to be. His main band is called Geometry of Chaos; he wanted to launch a musical project with me to explore our musical connections.

O: How did you come up with the band name?
Mir: The band’s name evokes the fragments of who we are—including the hidden parts. We use the metaphor of a reflection in a mirror to highlight the inner layers that normally remain invisible. I’m also a photographer and love the world of photography. “Ghost Reflections” can occur when you take a specific shot with a long exposure while the subject is moving.

O: Let’s stick with the topic of “names”: Your debut EP is titled “I Am I.” Why was this particular song the best choice to represent the EP?
Mir: We felt that “I Am I” was the right choice for two reasons: It’s the first song we produced, and it has a distinct Electrodark sound. Back then, we wanted to give the project exactly that signature sound.

O: Actually, it’s quite simple: “Am Am I.” But often, it’s just not that simple … In what way is this statement a kind of victory?
“Mir: ‘I Am I'” is a declaration of one’s own identity. The song reflects on how we perceive ourselves in relation to the past, present, and future when we have no descendants.

We live on through other people as they explore alternative forms of creativity: through what we leave behind in others, and through what lives on beyond us.
