“Dauntless Zeal” is steeped in pain and melancholy. With a somber rendition of “Bella Ciao (Avanti!)”, Byronic Sex & Exile makes it clear right from the start that the six songs are politically charged. Rather than lecturing, the six songs primarily encourage reflection. – Music as resistance? Three tracks are unconventional cover versions, while the remaining three are original compositions—including the melancholic “The Last Day of School” and the driving dark rock track “Chalk Farm Rebel.” “Dauntless Zeal” concludes on a somber note with “Give Raul a Gun,” which leaves you with a pleasant chill down your spine.
