DR. MARK BENECKE: WGT Diary 2022 (11/60) – Mephisto? Donald? Box spring bed? (2/3)
During the ritual photographing of the so-called ribbon snake – a species not yet described in detail in zoology, but well known to all WGT visitors – dramatic scenes occur. Mark has to balance on a bike stand. The photographer standing next to it pretends to be amused and says, “I’d be careful, rocks don’t yield.” In reality, he only pretends to be so friendly because he wants to photograph Ines and does so shortly afterwards.

5:50 p.m., Leipzig Central Station: Ines eats a huge portion of French fries with everything, but is still disappointed: Ines: “I didn’t get a Goth name. The guy before me got one, his name was Mephisto. I got a Donald. I’m in favor of the Frittenwerk preparing only Gothic names for the next WGT, please.” That’s how close joy and sorrow are at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen. (Text and photos: Mark Benecke)
