DR. MARK BENECKE: WGT diary 2022 (47/60) – Sachertorte? Tiger? Vampyre? (1)
Somewhere on the agra grounds between the trees we meet Micha and Katja from Nuremberg. Mark: “You’re a mortician and you say you’ve been chasing me for years. What’s the story?” Micha: “One never meets you otherwise and unfortunately I couldn’t attend a lecture because something else always comes up.” Mark: “Bodies got in the way?” Micha: “No, there are no dead bodies during free time!” Mark: “What don’t even goths know about dead bodies?” Micha: “I can’t say whether they know that. What I think everyone should know about it: How they want to be buried. That everybody has to deal with death. That you decompose and how you decompose.” Mark: “So you would advise that people stop by the funeral directors and morticians sometime and find out how a funeral might go?” Micha: “You can inform yourself however you want. There are so many things. You just have to deal with it in the first place. We all have to die, there’s no getting around it.” Mark: “Have you been chasing me too?” Katja: “I’m a huge fan of you and ‘Vampires Among Us.’ And I’m absolutely passionate about creating sweets in black design, I bring a cake in black with Corpsebride characters to the Victorian Picnic every year.” Mark: “Are you going to hand them out too, or are you going to eat the cake all by yourself?” Katja: “I like to hand them out to people who come by, let people take pictures and admire the good stuff.” Mark: “What’s the best thing about vampires for you?” Katja: “Vampires are simply very fascinating night creatures. I’m fascinated by the way they appear. I’m a big fan of bats.” Mark: “What’s the best thing about black cake?” Katja: “The best part is the inside, the rest is just dark fondant. Inside is a classic Sachertorte as a filling. But not with apricot jam but with currants.” (The real Viennese part of the Orkus! editorial team is shocked. – Claudi) Mark: “A delicate topic, we better move on…” (Text & photos: Mark Benecke)

The Sacher cake has already been screwed up once. Next in the next part with tigers and vampyres.
