DUIR: Bagpipes Meet Double Bass

Duir, from Verona, have completely revamped their lineup once since 2013. Guitarist MK also plays in four other black metal bands. On their new album, “Catarsi,” Duir blend atmospheric black metal with folk elements, giving them a sound that’s more Scandinavian than Southern European. The blend of heavy riffs and bagpipe melodies works surprisingly well, and the Italian lyrics—which deal with the fate of a single soldier in World War I—fit perfectly into the overall picture.
