Liminal Sky

Jaime Gomez Arellano, who is also a producer, mixer & mastering engineer(Ghost, Ulver, Opeth, Paradise Lost), and Daniel Knight have been playing together in various bands (including Messenger) for over 20 years. They founded Liminal Sky in 2020. We talk to them in our two-part interview about their debut album “All Tomorrow’s Darkness”, which will be released on June 19, 2026. You can read the first part here .

The band photos were taken in a field of dead, wilted sunflowers near the studio. They felt this was in keeping with the album themes, “death, loss and a kind of ephemeral beauty. It offered a different perspective on something that is usually seen as bright and full of life.” While Jaime was in Sweden working with Årabrot, he took a photo in Djura: “I was walking, listening to early demos of the songs and passed by this old mill in the middle of nowhere.” It later became the album cover. “There’s a sense of isolation and quiet melancholy in it that really reflects the emotional core of the music.” Jaime knows nothing about the history or who may have lived or worked there. “It’s just this abandoned place, but in a way, that lack of context made it even more fitting. It leaves room for interpretation,” which fits in perfectly with the themes of the album.

Interior

“Yes, it should represent a heartbeat.” Daniel wrote the part at the beginning of the title track. The feeling of being in a hospital should be evoked; the pulse and corresponding tone convey this and suggest a gradual slowing down. It fades into “these rather angelic, expansive synth textures.” This has an almost detached quality and reflects the themes “of death and whatever comes after. All of these sounds were crafted by Daniel using an ARP 2600 synthesizer that he built from scratch, which makes it feel even more personal and tangible.”
