Nine Inch Nails‘ second album, “The Downward Spiral”, was released on March 8, 1994. Did you already know these 5 facts?
★ The protagonist of the concept album moves in “The Downward Spiral”, which ends with his suicidal breakdown.
★ Trent Reznor converted the house in Los Angeles where Sharon Tate was murdered by members of the Manson family in 1969 into a studio and recorded “The Downward Spiral” there.
★ Reznor was inspired by David Bowie’s “Low” and Pink Floyd’s“The Wall”, as both albums focus on introspection and dissociation.
★ Like the first album “Pretty Hate Machine”, “The Downward Spiral” was also produced by Flood. Due to artistic differences, it was the last collaboration.
★ The album reached number 2 in the US Billboard charts, 9 in the UK, 13 in Canada and 12 in Australia, which means: 4x platinum in the USA, 3x in Canada and gold in the AU and UK.
