TAZER interview (1/2)
Tazer release their debut album “Taze Is the Rule”. We talk to the trio in our two-part interview about what’s behind the cult.
The name says it all
The first glance at the track list clearly reveals how closely Tazer are connected to their band name. Did the song titles just come about by chance, or did the trio deliberately plan these puns? “The idea was to turn our name into a verb in our lyrics. We give it a slightly different meaning each time, creating a common identity that makes our tracks instantly recognizable. We have to admit that we really had fun with some of the puns… maybe it got a bit out of hand.”
From music to cult
“Taze Is the Rule” could not have been a better title track, as it represents the album perfectly. The line “we don’t care about your skin, sex …” is particularly powerful. Do Tazer believe that we must and should use every platform available these days to draw attention to injustice? “Let’s start with a premise: We hate everyone equally, no exceptions! All kidding aside, ‘Taze Is the Rule’ is an anthem about strictly following the dogmas of the Tazer cult, without any favoritism or discrimination. A true follower will grasp these dogmas immediately; if not, they will never find them.” The idea that fans and music become one, or as Tazer themselves call it: a cult, is summed up in the number “Taze Like Me”. From here on, there is no turning back. Does this feeling of unity with the fans give the band confidence for the future? “Definitely. The cult is growing and breathing as a unit. We like to see ourselves as catalysts; the unity of music and fans follows our flow and becomes its own entity – unified, electrifying and loyal. Beautiful.”
