On Stage: NACHTMAHR

December 02, 2023, Vienna, Escape Metalcorner
Support: Antibody
Despite frosty temperatures, boys and girls in uniform flocked to the Escape Metalcorner in Vienna on Saturday evening. The evening began euphorically and ended with the same dynamic.
Antibody kicked things off with “Devourer” and “Opfera of Death”, two songs from the first album. German solo artist Jan Laustroer aka Antibody was bursting with energy and really fired up the audience. His Industrial Techno beats moved the crowd. Unreleased works also completed his set, until he left the stage with a broad grin on his face. “That was so cool,” he enthused after his concert and joined the dancing crowd to celebrate a little more at the after-show party.

Without a dramatic entrance or long intro, Nachtmahr took to the stage – just the two of them on this evening – and opened the show with “War on the Dancefloor”. The crowd went wild, danced and celebrated. The spark didn’t just ignite, it was thrown back and forth like a ping-pong game. Thomas Rainer lived up to the motto of the evening, “Vollkontakt” (Full contact). Within the first few songs, music, artist and audience merged into one. Down-to-earth, humorous and audience-oriented interactions with the fan community rounded off this homogeneous bond. During the chorus of “Feuer frei”, artists and audience members took turns singing.
The guests who had traveled from abroad also got their money’s worth, because on this evening they experienced Thomas in his natural habitat. After a while, he switched to Austrian. “I could speak Viennese with you”, he said and added a few typical Austrian jokes, which made the Italian band member Vrolok(Zugzwang) smile. Classics such as “Mädchen in Uniform” and “El Chupacabra” got the good-humored and remarkably considerate audience going once again. The euphoria was not only noticeable in front of the stage, but also on stage, because the broad grins that radiated towards the fans could not be mimed. “I’m probably the only one who can do Industrial in Viennese”, the Supreme Commander rang out the Falco cover“Titanic”. The final song was “Katharsis”, before Nachtmahr presented their latest single “Luzifer” as an encore.
From an organizer who is passionate about the well-being of the Austrian music scene, to the – for the Escape usual – brilliant sound, to energetic artists and cheerful guests, this evening could be declared a successful celebration of euphoria.
