SIMON CARTER: Gloomy future pop?

In his new album “Start the Sequence”, Simon Carter works with eleven different singers for each of the eleven songs. He recalls how the idea came about: “I had specific voices and vocal styles in mind for each track I produced. I’m not a singer myself and I’ve had a bit of writer’s block recently when it comes to writing lyrics. So I thought involving other people would take the creativity to a higher level and allow me to focus more on the music. I tried to make these tracks as dancefloor friendly as possible, mixing my usual elements of trance and techno, but in a more gritty futurepop style.”
In doing so, he created a unique atmosphere that is reflected in every track. Among the collaborations are Marc Massive (Massive Ego), Stefan Netschio (Beborn Beton), Damasius Venys (Future Lied to Us) and Alex Erbacher (District 13). For Simon, it was a special pleasure “to work with old friends again and to make some new friends.” Even though the organization was quite stressful, the work was more than worth it. Simon Carter sees it above all as a team effort.
What’s the deal with the album title “Start the Sequence”? “Music is a series of sequences, and electronic music often contains a sequencer, so I played with that theme a bit, and I also wanted the title to show that this is something new, something that’s just starting.” For a sequel of sorts, Simon already has “very good ideas and some great guest vocalists in mind.”
