SANGUIS ET CINIS – “Th1rteEn” (20-year classic)

SANGUIS ET CINIS
“Th1rte3n”
CD (Trisol/EFA)
With last year’s long player “Alright, Let’s Rock” Sanguis et Cinis might have surprised many who were about to relegate them to the Deathrock corner. “Th1rte3n” also takes up this development again, wants to establish the band as a new unit and even cuts quite a good figure. Admittedly, some moments seem extremely smoothly ironed, a bit too tightened, flirting too intensively with pop elements. There is a danger of kitsch. However, the whole thing is relativized again and again by the ironic side wind that keeps the Austrians on course. The road movie concept, which was put over the record, doesn’t seem forced at any time, but could have used a bit more dirt and grime here and there. In return, however, Sanguis et Cinis deliver what are probably their most mature compositions to date, a powerful production and an album that points the way to the future of the formation. Because neither before the own history nor before musical encroachments on new elements, as for example in places scratching, was stopped. A successful Rock disc, which even stubborn critics of the group should recognize.
