SLOWDIVE
“Everything Is Alive”

Album (Dead Oceans)

Six years after the self-titled album “Slowdive” (2017), the shoegaze greats take you on a new sonic journey. “Shanty” lets the listener slide in and, as the opener of the fifth album of the Brits, sets the mood for what the following arrangements will expand on. Sometimes pleasantly atmospheric, echoing, sometimes indulgent or as light-footedly catchy as in “Kisses”, the eight pieces catch the ear. Like sonic balm, “Andalucia Plays” stretches out dreamily for more than six minutes, and “Prayer Remembered” grounds itself with level-headed intensity. Unagitated, “Everything Is Alive” devotes itself to emotional depth wrapped in engaging tones.
