TARJA caught between independence and belonging

When we speak to Tarja shortly before Easter, she has just returned from an intensive trip through the Eternal City – her feet still tired from the long walks through the alleyways of Rome and her head full of impressions from her family vacation. But this breather was sorely needed, because what follows is an artistic tour de force. Seven years after “In the Raw”, the Finnish soprano is back with a bang: “Frisson Noir” is not only her long-awaited new sign of life, but also the heaviest and most intense album of her solo career to date. In our May/June issue, we philosophize with Tarja about her longing for the sea, the sovereignty of getting older and the tension between independence and the lifelong search for belonging.
