THE TWILIGHT SAD about grief and loss

Automatic translation. Improvements are constantly being worked on.

The name The Twilight Sad is an excerpt from the poem “But I Was Looking at the Permanent Stars” by British poet Wilfred Owen. James Graham and Andy MacFarlane are the last two remaining members of the band, and they have brought David Jeans and Alex Mackay on board for the live shows. In the summer, they will once again be supporting The Cure on tour. With “It’s a Long Goodbye”, The Twilight Sad will release their sixth studio album on March 27, 2026. The most personal – it deals with the illness and death of Graham’s mother – and at the same time perhaps the band’s most accessible album. James agrees: “In the past, I’ve used a lot of metaphors in my lyrics. There aren’t as many here. The album is very much about my mental health, grief and loss and the need to be strong in situations where you don’t feel that way. I think it’s a very human story – this is just my version of it. I think everyone goes through something like this. Everyone loses someone. Everyone questions life.” We talk to him in our March/April issue about the touching story of how it came about and how Robert Smith(The Cure) not only contributed to it, but also became a true friend.
