WGT 2024 – Review (4/4)
With our fourth part, we end our review of this year’s WGT and look back on Whit Monday. Missed the first part? No problem. You can read it here .
Monday
Old and new faces
And then it was Monday again. As every year, the question arose: Why does time seem to pass twice as fast at Whitsun? But there was no reason to be sad. We ended the WGT where we started it, in the Westbad. Omnimar are truly no strangers. Label boss Raphaël Beck supported them on the keys. By contrast, the Scottish band Walt Disco, who were next on the program, were a real unknown quantity. What could be seen as curious skepticism at the beginning quickly turned into joyful enthusiasm, as the band was able to wrap everyone around their fingers with their impressive sound. Rarely has such exuberant joy been observed on stage and in the rows. Unfortunately, the last band took to the stage at 21:00. She Hates Emotions were a real highlight for many and so the fans in the front row squeezed together particularly closely to experience Jan and Chris as intensively as possible. The fact that Chris Pohl is a real entertainer is nothing new, but the two men together really provided one laugh after another between songs. During songs like “Cry Wolf”, the master of lighting technology really let it all hang out, the stage was repeatedly enveloped in such a breathtaking sea of lights that you couldn’t help but be amazed. NDH and Electro
The Felsenkeller was all about Neue Deutsche Härte. In the afternoon, Stoneman added fuel to the fire, which was only fanned further by Maerzfeld. Schwarzer Mann, Schattenmann and finally Megaherz provided clear sounds with a headbang guarantee. Before Kirlian Camera brought the WGT to a worthy close in the Agra, Welle: Erdball spontaneously stepped in to represent Vive la Fete. Before that, Merciful Nuns and Gothminister won over the black souls. (MV)
Medieval?
If there were still people on Monday who had not yet felt the medieval vibes this year, there was still the opportunity to quickly visit the pagan village at Torhaus Dölitz. The smell of burning wood and the obligatory pig on a spit created the right atmosphere. Tanzwut were also the headliners, performing their new song “Achtung Mensch” from their new album of the same name live for the first time. For some it was a dance-worthy end to the event, for the rest it was the start of the last night in black Leipzig, which in the best case scenario should never end. But: the 32nd WGT is already being planned by the Treffen team and we will of course be there again. (FW)
