Where does the band name EVANESCENCE come from?

What “transience” means to us, the English dictionary paraphrases somewhat differently. When it came to choosing a band name, Childish Intentions and Knitting were on the table for consideration. As Amy Lee explained to the BBC in 2003, “EVANESCENCE in English means to vanish from the plane of vision and memory. It’s a word that most people don’t even know, just like we came out of nowhere and we wanted to have that mystical element to it. I also think it sounds beautiful, as does our music.”
