An Interview with BAEL BLACKWOOD (Part 1 of 2)

Bael Blackwood is both the name of the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist behind the music and the name of the project, which was founded in 2024. This dive into Bael Blackwood’s latest single, “Aschemeer,” reveals what blood sticks to and where coincidences struck.
Destruction & Liberation?
“The final impetus for me to address the senseless destruction here was actually quite coincidental,” Bael Blackwood sums up. Among other things, the book addresses the political climate, fear, and flight from war and destruction: “At first, I wanted to write a purely occult fantasy story, but then, out of a sense of my artistic responsibility, I realized that commenting on current world events of the past few years would resonate much more deeply with people…” Social media is also mentioned as “a tool that is increasingly frightening people and is being used to stoke ever more intense hatred. The sheer number of hateful comments on a wide variety of social media platforms illustrates the enormous potential for anger and hatred that exists within the average citizen.” Positive potential can be found in the realm of artistic and musical skill: The track also attests to the project’s continuous evolution. “This was my first song where, as a producer and multi-instrumentalist, I really recorded and/or programmed every instrumental track myself.” Although it was a bit more stressful at times, for Bael the main thing is: “Doing everything on my own feels extremely liberating.”
Shine Instead of Gray?
The color scheme of the cover art really stands out: “Red is a passionate color and here it represents hatred. Hatred even turns the ashes red, because in the world of ‘Aschemeer,’ hatred has triumphed over everything, and so, bit by bit, the sea of ashes continues to fill.” There’s also “the underlying idea that, in addition to the ash, there’s a bit of blood clinging to the hand that’s scattering the ash. To keep it from getting too graphic, I opted for deep red nail polish to symbolize this.”
The interview will continue shortly.
