Thoughtful good humor
ÁSGEIR
“Julia“
Album (Embassy of Music)

Julia”, the new album by Ásgeir, exudes a thoughtful good mood. It may seem paradoxical, but this is by no means the case: the Icelandic artist is a master at setting thoughtful lyrics to meaningful folk music, but with an unspeakable lightness that brings a smile to the listener’s face. On his fifth album, Ásgeir for the first time did not set his father’s poems or other sources to music, but wrote all the lyrics himself. This creates a special intimacy and emotionality that echoes in every sound and, of course, in the artist’s voice. With “Julia”, Ásgeir combines atmospheric folk sounds with alternative pop elements, as if these genres had always been intimate lovers.
