L’Âme Immortelle could not have introduced “Unlived Lives” more appropriately than with “What if”. The piece explains the album concept and is one of ten thought experiments that surely everyone knows. What follows is a turbulent journey between extremely danceable beats, thoughtful, melancholy lyrics with glimmers of hope and depressing self-reflection. Sonja Kraushofer and Thomas Rainer’s voices are in top form and convey the highest emotionality with the sometimes heavy, but often simply liberating, catchy sounds. In the end, “Unlived Lives” feels like a cathartic release.
