Lacrimosa in the Hamburg logo on 06.03.2025

Hamburg, Logo, March 06, 2025

Darkness descended on the streets of Hamburg as the first fans – silhouettes in black, waiting patiently and wrapped up in a mixture of anticipation and nostalgia – gathered in front of the logo. Muffled voices could be heard and expectant faces could be seen. There was a hint of tension in the air. Because tonight will be different – no opulent bombast, no thundering guitars. Instead, Lacrimosa, a band that has been touching the souls of the black scene for decades, invites you to a very special experience: The presentation of their new longplayer “Lament” in an acoustic version, reduced to the essentials, raw, intense, accompanied by intimate conversations with Tilo Wolff and Anne Nurmi.

Gentle fragility

As the lights dimmed gently, the audience fell silent almost instantly. Lacrimosa took to the stage without much of a production – just them, their instruments and an audience that had come to really listen. The first note rang out, it became even quieter, no bombastic light storm, just delicate guitar playing, soft and fragile, followed by Tilo’s unmistakable voice. “Lament”, the title track of the new album, opened the evening with a melancholic intensity that immediately got under your skin. There was an instant magic that only Lacrimosa can unfold. Every note was right, every syllable carried a weight that resonated in the room.

The setlist was an artful mix of classics and new songs. The intimate acoustic version of “Alleine zu zweit” had an almost sacred effect, while “Avalon” was almost hypnotic in its stripped-back form. “Dark Is This Night”, performed minimally by Anne, gave the first goosebumps, while the acoustic version of “Flamme im Wind” cast the song in a new light: vulnerable and yet full of power. “Memoria” once again showed Lacrimosa’smusical versatility and when “Alles Lüge” rang out, carried only by gentle guitar chords and Tilo’s voice, the audience held their breath and then accompanied Tilo with every single syllable. These were pure goosebump moments.

In-depth insights

But what made this evening so special was not just the songs, but the encounters. In three blocks between the songs, the fans had the opportunity to ask questions – not prepared phrases, but real, personal insights. How is a Lacrimosa song created? What does “Lament” mean to Tilo? What inspires him? Is there a symphonic tour? The answers were honest, reflective, sometimes humorous, sometimes deeply melancholic. You could sense that this was an artist who was not hiding behind a façade, but opening up – to his music and his audience. This closeness was tangible, it made the evening a dialog, not just a performance.

Magic that lasts

After a good two hours, this extraordinary concert evening came to an end with “The Party Is Over”, but nobody really wanted to leave. People stood together in small groups, exchanging impressions and reflecting on what they had experienced. Some with wet eyes, others with a quiet smile – because what Lacrimosa created tonight was more than just a concert. It was an encounter. An invitation to immerse yourself in a world where music is not just heard, but felt.

On this evening, Lacrimosa proved that you don’t need big productions to be moving. Sometimes all it takes is a voice, an instrument – and the willingness to give yourself completely to the music. Those who were here were able to capture a moment that will resonate for a long time to come. – After all, isn’t that exactly what appeals to us in our gloomy world, what music is all about?
