Dance with the devil

You may have heard the saying: “Go to the devil!” or “Let the devil get you!” But don’t worry, you don’t just have to be evil to meet the devil, because the prince of darkness often lurks where passion and devotion set the tone. Where a seductive touch of hellish fervor, sonic abysses and a sharp-tongued pinch of hellish energy melt together, the result is simply devilishly good music, or rather, the German-language band Tanzwut with its frontman Teufel! Here, diabolical rhythms collide with satanically awesome melodies that lure even the laziest dance grouch to the purgatory of the dance floor. Accompanied by devilish virtuosity, these sounds, these devilish beats in combination with infernal guitar riffs, unfold a demonic power that makes hearts beat faster and feet stand still.

Anyone embarking on this infernal journey with Tanzwut will be surrounded by a sonic devil’s aura that casts a spell over sinners and saints alike. Whether hellishly hot medieval rock or demonic industrial metal – this musical mix, this medieval metal proves that a pact with the (sonic) devil is just the thing for anyone who longs for musical passion and devilish intensity!

Tanzwut released their latest, now eleventh studio album “Achtung, Mensch!” at the end of August.(We dedicated the cover story of the summer issue to Tanzwut accordingly.) What could be more obvious than taking this devilish work on a headlining tour of the same name through 15 German cities and transforming the stages of these clubs into veritable fireplaces with hellish energy? We were there at the Bahnhof Pauli in Hamburg.

Before the devil comes!

At Hamburg’s Bahnhof Pauli, which was packed with sinners, Florian Grey got the waiting crowd in the mood for the upcoming main show. His distinctive vocals, with which he combined catchy rhythms to create a dark melancholy, quickly captivated the audience and you almost got the impression that quite a few people had come just to see Florian Grey. He presented a varied potpourri of highlights from his previous three albums and gave a foretaste of things to come with his latest single “Dead by Dawn”. The song thrilled the audience with its dark atmosphere and powerful melody.

When the devil comes!

After a short break came what all the sinners present – and by God there were quite a few of them – were waiting for: Tanzwut entered the stage, followed by frontman Teufel and with the first sounds of the opener “Feuer in der Nacht” followed by “Neues Spiel, neues Glück” and “Achtung, Mensch!”, the band got off to a hell of a powerful start with three songs from their latest album. This was followed by two classics “Bis zum Meer” and “Freitag der 13.” and then four more songs from the latest album with “Noch eine Flasche Wein”, “Roter Mohn”, “Loch in der Mauer” and “Zauberland”. Frontman Teufel, charismatic as ever, knew how to put the audience in a euphoric mood, accompanied by infernally driving guitar riffs and hellishly distinctive bagpipe sounds. It didn’t just go straight to the head, no – even more so to the legs!

The devil’s dance!

The setlist was a successful mix of old classics, including “Pack”, “Der Puppenspieler” and “Das Gerücht”, as well as other new songs. Tanzwut once again demonstrated their exceptional ability to fuse powerful metal sounds with catchy melodies to create a perfect balance between heaviness and danceability. Their unique brand of medieval metal brought the crowd into a state of perpetual motion, sending the Hamburg audience into a collective and almost incessant frenzy of movement. After almost two hours, Tanzwut bid farewell with “We’ll see you again” and this was exactly what the fans demanded loudly. Frontman Teufel and his Tanzwut didn’t have to be asked for long. With the songs “Götterfunken/Schreib es mit Blut”, “Brüder im Geiste” and “Hymnus Cerberi”, they set a brilliant final point that sent the crowd of now no longer poor sinners happily into the Hamburg night.

Devilish conclusion

It was powerful, it was a bit medieval, with hard metal and driving bagpipes, paired with the raw intensity of Neue Deutsche Härte, always rousing and very danceable from the very first minute – it was devilishly good music, or rather: it was Tanzwut!
