The Fair Attempts’ new album “Null Guide” is dystopian. The very first song, “Nothing’s Gonna Be Alright”, bursts forward with electronic sounds and shows that there is no hope. Things get even darker in “Freedom’s Just a Word You Say”, which is followed by one of the merciless highlights: “Ghost Within”. Here, industrial elements are skillfully combined with EBM sounds. There is undoubtedly a certain melancholy and thoughtfulness in each of the ten tracks, but it is the forward-driving music that ensures that “Null Guide” is not a depressing album, but danceable with heart and brain.
