20 years ago: Profile with VNV NATION

20 years ago we asked Ronan Harris(VNV NATION) the very personal questions of our “profile”. Read here in the fifth part more about his worst hit on, what he appreciates in the opposite sex, what was his most painful experience so far and how it looks like in terms of “love letters” with him.
What was your worst “hit on” sentence?
Hmmm… The dumbest thing, I think, was, “Hey, we’re both really drunk and giggling around and having a lot of fun, so why don’t we have fun with each other tonight and forget about the fact that we’re both going to spend the next five days wondering how we ever actually got together and coming up with a good excuse to get out of this?”
What do you appreciate most about a person of the opposite sex?
The eyes (a wise person once wrote “The eyes are a mirror of the soul”), sense of humor, intelligence, honesty; she should not play games and ask questions to which there is no right answer, such as “Am I fat?” or “Do you think my best friend, the professional model, is prettier than me?” (If she does ask, I will just say “yes”).
What was the most painful experience for you so far?
I’ve thought long and hard about how to respond to this, and I think an honest answer is better than trying to be funny. I lost someone who was very close to me. Nothing and no one had prepared me for this situation, and after that I was no longer the same. I see death very positively and do not consider it the end of a human existence, but the feeling of having to spend this life without that person was very hard for me.
When and from whom did you get your first love letter?
Love letters? To me? Ha, ha, ha! When I was 14, I received one from a girl I knew. It was completely nonsensical. I knew she had written the letter because she loved the idea of being in love; it had nothing to do with me. When I was 18, I had a girlfriend who wrote beautiful love letters. They were the most glorious phrases I’ve ever read – but that was about the only thing she got right.
In the sixth part, things get tingly: sex, overdrawing accounts and embarrassment come up.
